The Bemis Esquires were from a place they called Bemisuwka. The property was
located at Bemis Pond between Chicopee Falls and Chicopee Center. In the
1930s, baseball and football fields were carved out on the plains above the pond.
For $100 per year, the brush was cleared and a baseball diamond was
constructed along with temporary bleachers. The park served as the home field
for the Chicopee Falls Polish Americans, one of the Depression era's best teams.
